Urban Regeneration
Urban Regeneration Masterplan is a 450,000sqm mixed use development located in Izmir. The development is a mix of commercial, cultural, residential, educational, and healthcare facilities that will enhance and support a growing local community and wider tourist industry.
The wider vision for the development is to generate positive change and economic revitalisation by adaptive reuse of the historic fabric of this district that has been largely neglected. The significance of these historic structures is an ideal platform from which to create a catalyst for pedestrian focused urban renewal.
The site is adjacent to the city's main port which is currently occupied by a range of building types from residential, office, warehouses, and industrial units as well as a transport hub. The masterplan proposes a new road network to help improve circulation and accessibility.
The garden gateway is composed of twin towers creating a symbolic entry point to a park. A new road to the site is designed along this axis strengthening the connectivity, while the southern entry road is visually expanded by adding a green belt to each side of the boulevard.
The towers will define the district as well as the new mixed use commercial development. Many of the existing buildings within the garden will be readapted for commercial and cultural use.
The northern edge of the site aspires to become the new arts and commercial district, similar to Soho in New York and Covent Garden in London.
