Healthcare City Masterplan
Nanjing, China
The Nanjing Healthcare City Masterplan lies at the heart of the wider new district urban design plan. The Healthcare City will bring together a community of medical, wellbeing, commercial, education, and civic functions. This mixed-use approach will generate a genuine new urban environment solution.
The masterplan encompasses fifteen separate hospital and healthcare institutions that are brought together with research development, recovery centres, geriatric care facilities, and a school of medicine. These form a new urban destination at a city scale for the creation of a new medical city to service the region, attracting both national and international medical expertise, patients and visitors. The masterplan design respects the pre-established wider transport infrastructure, roadways, street design, public transport and open green space urban plan framework.
The Healthcare City Masterplan combines the healthcare institutions with active commercial retail and office functions, quiet rehabilitation, education, and research facilities. The commercial uses activate the street-level along the urban axis and create the primary streets as lively and vibrant environments. In parallel, the interconnected open green spaces and courtyard arrangements feed nature and green space to each plot providing comfortable human scale surroundings with soothing landscape designs that are calming and healing.
